Post Wedding Adventure Sessions are quickly becoming one of my favorite things. Why?

Well, there are many, many reasons, but the one that rises to the forefront is stress. Or should I say, the lack thereof. It can really be hard sometimes to squeeze everything you want into a single wedding day: stunning photos, time to visit with your guests, food, and - importantly - time to enjoy your wedding day, without rushing from one thing to the next.

An Adventure Session is an absolutely fantastic solution when you're staring down at your wedding day timeline and starting to feel a little...crunched.

Plus, who wouldn't love an opportunity to get dressed up in that gorgeous gown for a second time and splurge a little on hair and makeup? Another upside is that you can choose a stunning secondary location that you might not otherwise have time to take portraits at on your wedding day AND choose the very best time of day to photograph - all without the pressure of needing to rush off to the next thing.

So Shanle, you might be wondering, is there a 'best time' to schedule a Post-Wedding Adventure session?

The next day? A week or maybe even a month after the wedding? What if I don't know that I need one until the day of my wedding? (This was the case for James & Edna, featured below.)

The best time is either A) the day after your wedding (more on this in a minute), or B) a few days to a week after you get back from your honeymoon. If you're having a destination wedding, I recommend booking your Adventure Session for the day after your wedding, while both you and your photographer are in the same location. If you're getting married in your hometown, there's a little more flexibility, but as a general rule I recommend having your Adventure Session within 6 weeks of your wedding. Any longer, and you run the risk of the changing seasons creating a disjointed look in your wedding album.

I also recommend booking your Post-Wedding Adventure session as soon as you realize that you want/need one for the best chance to being able to book at a time that is most convenient for you. Many wedding photographers book out months in advance, so if you wait until right before (or during!) your wedding to schedule your session, you have a higher possibility of running into scheduling issues.

What do you think?
